The 4th Precinct’s Crime Prevention Unit is available to help residents and businesses in the 4th Precinct address a variety of crime and safety related issues and concerns. The Crime Prevention Specialists (CPSs) of the 4th Precinct have a wide variety of duties and responsibilities, not the least of which is helping residents and businesses find solutions to their crime and safety concerns. Your sector CPS is available to discuss your concern, sort out the issues involved and help you find the best resources to address the problem.
There is more to “calling the police” than simply calling 911. Many of the ongoing crime and safety issues that affect our neighborhoods require more than just a 911 response by a squad car, and your sector CPS can help you find the right resources and the best approach to solving your problem. There are several different units and divisions within the Minneapolis Police Department, each of which is tasked with tackling a specific problem or issue. The list of acronyms includes CRT, DP, STOP, SOD, SOC, PAL, K9, SWAT and more. Knowing who to call for help on your particular issue can be daunting. Your Crime Prevention Specialist can help you sort it out and get you in touch with the right people.
Many issues and problems also require attention from resources outside of the police department. Housing Inspections, Licensing, the City and County Attorney’s offices, Adult and Child Protection, and Animal Control are just a few of the other agencies which have a role to play in solving neighborhood problems. Your sector CPS can help here too. After explaining the problem to your CPS, he or she can advise whether or not there are other agencies and resources available that can help.
Crime Prevention Specialists are assigned to work in different sectors of the Precinct. Check the list below to find the Crime Prevention Specialist for your neighborhood:

Crime Prevention Specialists work not only to address crime and safety problems, but also to educate and organize residents and businesses so that they can keep their neighborhoods great places to live and work. Your local CPS can help you make your home more secure, organize a block club, present a crime prevention workshop or seminar, address a crime issue, or refer you to the appropriate agency or service to address those issues.
911 responders are vital to the health and safety of out neighborhoods. The police officers, firefighters and paramedics who respond to your 911 calls are all dedicated professionals, committed to the service of Minneapolis residents. They do an excellent job in maintaining public safety for us all. However, there are also crime and safety situations which require more attention or different approaches than 911 responders can readily provide. For those issues, the Crime Prevention Specialists and Problem Property team stand ready to help. Don’t hesitate to give them a call with your next crime and safety concern or question.
