The Lowry Avenue reconstruction is in the last year of a three year project. Within the next few weeks the final phase of construction for the Lowry corridor will begin. The Avenue looks great now, and the construction has brought a lot of change to the area. Some businesses didn't survive due to the loss of customers during construction. But we recognize and applaud the businesses that weathered the storm and possibly came out better.
One of the most affected areas was the Lowry-Penn area. Seven businesses within two blocks on Lowry where lost through stress, or in some cases their buildings were demolished, in the name of progress. Hansen Fence, Super America, Dr. Luke Dentist, Asian Restaurant & Pizza, Asian Market and the Lowry Penn Market & Deli have all gone out of business.
The general rule for a business which is forced to move is "try to stay as close to your original location as possible." This allows your customer base to stay in contact with you. Several businesses were able to do just that. Metro Check Cashing moved across Lowry into a building being rehabbed by North End Hardware. Dr. Olson Chiropractics relocated to another spot on the corridor, and is now combined with Doc's Gym (previously at 42nd and Lyndale). Maura Lor Chiropractic moved several blocks east to the south side of Lowry between Knox and Logan. Wings Employment has a new office on the second floor of the new Penn-Lowry Crossings building above Aldi. Pee Xwn Tax Service relocated a block north on Penn. All of these businesses upgraded their site appeal and facades, and increased their bottom line.
With the final push to complete the Lowry construction project we salute all the businesses that made it through the tough times and wish continued success. And remember to shop locally and support our Lowry Avenue businesses during this final stage of construction.
