Penn Lowry breaks ground
Mayor Rybak spoke to folks at the Penn-Lo Crossings groundbreaking on March 9 on how this development has been long over due and how it will be a catalyst for additional development all along Lowry Avenue. Next year at this time he hopes to be breaking ground across the street on the northwest corner. Pictured are officials and community members shoveling dirt for the groundbreaking, including Jeanette Lavernen who has been working on this development for 15 years - ever since the (first) Penn Steak House burnt and the other businesses abandoned the site. At the event Barb Johnson mentioned Sue Nelson, another community resident who worked hand in hand with Jeannette trying to get this corner redeveloped. Sue passed away on March 3. Sue would be happy to know that today there are back hoes and dozers on the site.
