New Leadership Access Program at Patrick Henry

The Carlson School of Management kicked off its new Leadership Access Program, introducing high school students from underrepresented communities to business education at Patrick Henry High School on February 28 to congratulate the inaugural group of students selected to participate in an enhanced, early-outreach educational program.
Patrick Henry was selected because of the school’s national reputation as one of the top high schools in America. It’s one of the most diverse high schools in thr metro area, has an International Baccalaureate Program and a college preparatory program. With the majority of students selected as freshmen, the evaluation was based upon personal essays, teacher recommendations, evidence of personal diligence, steady improvement in academics, extra-curricular involvement and a desire to pursue higher levels of education in business.
Students selected will remain in the program for the remainder of their high school education and assisted through mentorship, ACT/SAT prep programs, exposure to the Carlson School’s campus, supplemental instructional support and other opportunities for aid.
College preparation will intensify for Leadership Access Program students during their senior year. Students and their parents will receive individual assistance in their college application and financial aid process. Upon high school graduation, qualified Leadership Access Program alumni will also receive support for continuing their college goals, including scholarship support, advising and tutoring, and a formal study group assignment during their freshman year.
