Are you looking for a job or career information? Sen. Linda Higgins, DFL-Minneapolis, suggests trying a new tool called ISEEK, the Internet System for Education and Employment Knowledge. “Not only can this site open the doors to many new opportunities, it can save you time and effort in your job hunt and education exploration.” The website, operated by a collaboration of several state agencies and higher education institutions, is a web-based gateway to Minnesota career, employment, education, and business development information and services. “ISEEK helps citizens find details about Minnesota schools, jobs that are available in the state, descriptions of a variety of careers, and local employment regulations,” said Higgins. “The information previously was located in dozens of different places, but now ISEEK puts it into a one-stop shop for career, skill and education advancement.”
The ISEEK system is easy to navigate and understand. ISEEK’s homepage is color coded to represent the four main sections of the website: explore careers, plan your education, find a job, and grow your business.
Among the most frequently used ISEEK tools are: Comprehensive descriptions of more than 500 careers and 60 industries; information on 256 post-secondary education institutions and nearly 600 areas of study; a listing of over 74,000 Minnesota classroom, online, or short-term training courses; reliable information on financial aid for parents and prospective students; a guide to Adult Basic Education opportunities, including programs to learn basic English, mathematics and communication skills; links to both MinnesotaWorks, an Internet-based job bank where registered employers and job seekers can quickly find each other, and the state’s WorkForce Centers, which provide counseling, workshops, employment training programs, and special programs for veterans and people with disabilities; tools to help job seekers with resumes, cover letters, interviews and salary negotiations; and assistance for those who have recently lost their jobs.
