Lowry construction update — Penn Ave. closing
08/01/2008

Lowry Avenue construction between Girard Avenue and Queen Avenue began on April 21. The contractor has completed the removal work and has been working on the watermain and new storm sewer system, and is beginning the roadway soon. The curb and gutter, pavement, and landscape amenities should follow shortly thereafter. This portion of the project is on schedule and should be reopened to traffic by mid November.
In August, Penn Avenue will be closed to traffic between 30th and 33rd Avenues. Traffic on Penn Avenue will be detoured around the project using routes on 26th, Fremont, Emerson and Dowling Avenues. Penn Avenue buses will be detoured around the project using routes on 30th, Russell and 34th Avenues. It is anticipated that the Penn Avenue detours will remain in place until mid September when the intersection is reopened.
As part of the Penn Avenue closure, the Lowry Avenue closure will extend to Queen Avenue. Traffic on Lowry Avenue will be detoured using routes on Theodore Wirth Parkway, West Broadway, 26th, Fremont and Emerson Avenues. The current Lowry Avenue bus detour route will remain in place. Signs directing vehicles to local businesses will be located on detour routes and on 33rd and 34th Avenues. The Lowry Avenue roadway between Penn and Queen Avenues is expected to reopen simultaneously with the Penn Avenue intersection in September.
Starting in spring 2009, construction will take place between Theodore Wirth Parkway and Queen Avenue. This work is scheduled to be completed in November 2009.
