If you missed the Northside Arts Collective first annual meeting on November 9, you missed being a part of history in the making, according to one of our founding members, Beverly Roberts. The event was hosted by Master Development on Broadway and 2nd St. N. in one of their open retails spaces right across the hall from Mercury Mosaics. Ten artists shared their artwork: Richard Amos, Marc Bautch, Christopher Harrison, Royce Holladay, Michele LeMoine, Steve Lindberg, Brian Optiz, Stan Orr, Janine Timm and Dawn Zamora. The evening concluded with Amoke Kubat sharing her humorous commentary on life as a 55-year old Black woman.
The new nine-member Board of Directors includes three members of the original steering committee and six newcomers from a pool of seven candidates. More than 30 folks, both artists and arts supports, turned out to help launch this new era for arts in North Minneapolis. The new Board (pictured) elected an executive committee and set the agenda for future meetings: Richard Amos, Jordan; Connie Beckers, President, Folwell; Christopher Harrison, Victory; Royce Holladay, Lind-Bohanon; Robert Johnson, Secretary, Folwell; Amoke’ Kubat, Webber-Camden; Jan Marx, Assistant Treasurer, Homewood; Mercedes Matilla, Vice President, Folwell; and Roderic Southall, Treasurer, Willard-Hay.
