Is your TV ready for the DTV transition? Assistance centers can help those in need
02/01/2009
The Lao Assistance Center, Main Street Project and the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Education Fund (LCCREF) opened two Twin Cities' DTV Assistance Centers to help folks make the transition to the new digital TV transition that will take place on February 17. The centers can can assist impacted communities with the transition and be hubs for information and technical support before, during and after the transition.
The DTV Transition will require millions of Americans to take action in order to maintain access to free over-the-air television. Communities of color, people who rely on languages other than English, low-income working families, older Americans, and people with disabilities who rely on over-the-air TV for emergency public service announcements will be most affected. Both the Lao Assistance Center and The Main Street Project will be conducting outreach and trainings within the SE Asian and Latino communities to help prepare and assist their communities in the DTV transition.
The two outreach and assistance centers are Lao Assistance Center, 503 Irving Avenue North, Suite 100A, 612-374-4967; and Main Street Project, 2104 Stevens Avenue South, 612-879-7578. If you know of someone who may need help with the TV transition, let them know about these resources.
