Housing Fair a success, planning underway for 2007

Over 80 exhibitors serving our area participated in the housing fair including Sumnerfield at Heritage Park and Citywide Home Improvement.
In spite of temperatures well below zero on February 18, the 2006 North Housing and Home Improvement Fair at North High boasted over 1,000 visitors who were able to speak to over 80 exhibitors that serve our community. Attendees were primarily from North Minneapolis, with some individuals from Columbia Heights, Robbinsdale, Brooklyn Park and other parts of Minneapolis.
Key contributions were made by North High School students through the website construction and the bird house activity. Beth Lasley from North High Community Education credited North High’s Computers, Construction, Engineering and Information Technology program and its instructors with the high level of student involvement in this event.
In addition to our community youth, an extensive list of North Minneapolis neighborhood volunteers and area business people including realtors and mortgage brokers, and organizations including North High Community Education, Center for Energy and Environment, and the Camden Lions had a part in the planning and successful presentation of the housing fair.
Attendees and exhibitors provided largely positive feedback (from surveys), with many exhibitors indicating a desire to be involved next year. The North Housing and Home Improvement Fair Planning Committee has announced that another housing fair will be held February 2007 at North High School. One of the key partners, Center for Energy and Environment is committing to be a Platinum Sponsor for next year’s event and will be involved in the execution of the 2007 fair. In addition, North High Community Education has expressed their desire to be a host partner.
