Kingsley Commons springing up
CommonBond Communities, property owners of Shingle Creek Commons on the Humboldt Greenway, was selected by the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Minnesota Chapter and Powderhorn Community Council (PCC) to develop an affordable community for people with multiple sclerosis. The new Kingsley Commons facility, designed by architect Miller Hanson Partners, will be located southeast of their current building, and will be the second housing project to come to the Lind Bohanon neighborhood (first is PPL/PUC Fathers and Their Children Together on Lyndale) in 2006. The building will be a community of 18 one-bedroom units and six two-bedroom units, plus a caretaker’s unit that will provide housing and onsite services for those living with multiple sclerosis.
Working with the City of Minneapolis Community Planning and Economic Development (CPED), CommonBond Communities received a development assistance grant, and additional project development funding from HUD 811 Capital Advance, MS Society, MN Chapter, City of Minneapolis HOME, City of Minneapolis NRP, City of Minneapolis CPED Soil Escrow, Hennepin County HRA and the Otto Bremer Foundation for a total development cost of $3,608,800. Frana and Sons, same contractor for the Shingle Creek Commons, will construct the building over the next nine months. For info about this equal housing opportunity contact the CommonBond hotline at 651-290-6228.
Great news for a great place
Shingle Creek Commons, a community treasure at 4600 Humboldt in the Lind Bohanon neighborhood, is celebrating its fourth anniversary. It opened its doors in 2002 on the new Humboldt Greenway with an array of amenities such as an upgraded computer room, relaxing library, professionally decorated common areas and convenient underground heated garage. This award-winning apartment community, professionally managed by CommonBond communities, now has apartments open to active adults 52 years and better.
Shingle Creek Commons prides itself on its great residents, many of whom owned homes near the community for many years prior to downsizing to an apartment. Many of the apartments are over 1,000 square feet and come complete with dishwasher, disposals, microwaves, central air, and enormous closet space. There are many new reasons to take another look at this great neighborhood-housing asset. The next Open House event is scheduled for Tuesday May 16 from 3-6 p.m. Call Grant Watkins at 612-588-2303 for details
