A real Goovin’ Summerfest

Fr. Vincent Spinos, TOR greets fest goers at one of the many auction booths last year.
A celebration of the ‘60s highlights St. Bridget’s Annual Summerfest on June 4 when Goovin’ Summerfest gathers parishioners, neighbors and friends on Emerson between Dowling and 39th Avenues. Along with kids’ games outside, and pull tabs and bingo inside, barbecue is served in the fresh air and a ham dinner in the gym. A silent auction offers new items from electronics to gardening supplies. This year’s festival offers more activities, including a children’s raffle and an opportunity to make beaded necklaces, and a wide variety of books for sale.
“Being a new member of the organizing committee, I have enjoyed being part of the team creating new ideas and events to keep our Summerfest fresh and unpredictable,” says parishioner Jennifer Kaplan. “I hope everyone will come and enjoy the activities and the food.” Another new committee member, Liz Waverek said, “I look forward to celebrating Summerfest. It’s another opportunity for our parish family to share with the community we live in and to show our neighbors our arms and doors are always open.”
The celebration begins at 9:30 a.m. with a Pentecost mass that features an African choir. The festival runs from 10:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. For info contact St. Bridget Church at 612-529-7779.
