Free tax preparation

Free tax preparation for seniors and low income persons begins in February at the Hennepin County North Regional Library and Oak Park Center. Trained and certified AARP Tax-Aide Volunteers will help with personal income tax, rent credit, property tax refunds and other tax issues. These are IRS authorized E-file locations. Bring a photo ID, Social Security cards for yourself and your family, and tax documents from employers, pensions, banks, etc. If you are a renter, bring the 2009 CRP certificate from your landlord. If you are a homeowner bring your property tax statement payable in 2010. Bring last year's tax return and anything else you think may be important.
Free tax preparation at the Hennepin County North Regional Library, 1315 Lowry Ave. N., begins February 3 and continues on Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. through April 14, and on Saturday beginning February 13, and continuing every Saturday, 10:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m. through April 17. Customers are served on a first come first served basis.
Oak Park Center, 1701 Oak Park Ave. N., tax preparation begins February 1, and continues every Monday through April 12, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. (closed Presidents Day, February 15.) Call 612-377-7000 for an appointment. Appointments will get preference but walk-ins are accepted if Tax-Aide Counselors are available.
