Education explosion

I'm the executive director of a nonprofit organization called Education Explosion. I've lived on the Northside for 28 years. As a single mom I raised four children and overcame numerous obstacles. In 2004 I enrolled in GED classes and completed my GED test requirements in two weeks, and then I received a diploma from Minneapolis Community and Technical College in Human Services, and a certificate in Community Health. I'm currently in my senior year at Metropolitan State University to receive a BA degree as an Educational Advocate. My mission in life came to call when I registered for college and realized the challenges people face with going back to school after many years. I have a passion and dream to see that all people who receive any government assistance (housing, food stamps, cash assistance, etc.) go back to school and receive an education.
Education should be what we eat, sleep and dream. I have gotten hundreds of people into school since February 2007, without receiving any operational funding. We are committed; working from the Minneapolis Urban League, numerous libraries and even from home. We're looking to gain support from the community, state and local governments. Education Explosion has a format, mission and proposal; everywhere you have a work force center you should have a center that assists with educational goals. Education Explosion can help you register for school, file for financial aid, find open GED classes, help find affordable childcare, and find one-on-one help teaching adults how to read, etc.
Let's ignite the flames of education - it can and will destroy poverty. Education Explosion is at 2100 Plymouth; info at 302-3100 or 242-4312.
