Do something about it

I was sitting on my sofa watching TV, wasting time and eating potato chips, and feeling badly about the problems of the world. And I was feeling sorry for myself for having to lock my doors and wondering when/if someone will break into my house and steal stuff.
But the solution came to me on November 9. I went to a gathering of the Lind Bohanon and Shingle Creek neighborhood associations where they honored block club leaders and encouraged more people to become block club leaders.
The answer to feeling better about the world and safer in my home is to connect with neighbors! At the meeting all of us neighbors had fun while talking about neighborhood successes and challenges. We laughed and enjoyed each other’s company - and that empowered us to make our community a great place to live.
Here are some ideas for making the world a better place: If your block has a block club - attend the meetings. If you don’t have a block club - help organize your block and become a block club leader. (You can get training and the time commitment is minimal). Participate in your neighborhood association (see pages 8 and 9). And sit on your front steps and say “hi” to your neighbors as they walk by.
If you want to find out more about block clubs for the Lind Bohanon, Shingle Creek, Victory or Webber-Camden neighborhoods call Crime Prevention Specialist Shannon McDonough at 612-673-2805. For Cleveland, Folwell or McKinley neighborhoods call Mary Etzioni 612-673-3364 or Jennifer Waisanen at 612-673-5873. Also if you live in Lind Bohannon I’m starting an Internet group for neighbors.
