Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a police officer? Do you wonder why officers do what they do? Do you want to learn more about the Police Department?
Learn directly from investigators, trainers, precinct commanders and officers about police procedures, what it is like to be an officer and how the Minneapolis Police Department is organized at the Citizens’ Academy.
This 10-week Minneapolis Police Department Training Unit course is open to people 18 years of age or older who live or work in Minneapolis. Topics include Use of Force, Investigations, K-9 Unit, 911 Operations, Emergency Response Unit and more. Some activities are “hands on” experiences. Students participate in scenarios and simulation exercises.
The Minneapolis Police Department seeks to serve people from a wide variety of backgrounds when selecting its Citizen’s Academy classes. It attempts to attract candidates of different ethnicities, professions, cultural backgrounds, age groups, and neighborhoods throughout the city in hopes of enriching class discussions and reaching out to as many communities as possible.
