Camden’s caring citizens

While watching a replay of channel 11’s volunteer awards called “11 who KARE” during the holidays, I started thinking about all the people in Camden who give of themselves to make this a better community.
There are the people who volunteer to be on the neighborhood boards for our seven neighborhoods, the people who are on the 4th Precinct Advisory Council, the Mad Dads and the folks who are block club leaders. Some people volunteer to help students in our schools or to help hospital or nursing home patients. Volunteers run the Workhouse Theatre, the Camden Music School and the Northside Arts Collective. For nine years, a group of Camden residents have volunteered their time to make Holiday on 44th a free and fun event for our community. The Camden Community Historical Society and the Mississippi Courts group are people working to preserve Camden’s history and share it with all of us. Recently we’ve seen some of our neighbors give their all to fight for our Webber Park Library. There are the adults who volunteer to be Boy Scout or Girl Scout leaders or who volunteer to coach youth sports. And of course, the Camden Community News that you’re reading is brought to you each month by a group of volunteers. As you can see, we have a lot of caring citizens in Camden. In the coming months, I plan to highlight some of the many individuals who give of themselves to make Camden a better community.
If you know of a caring Camdenite who’s an outstanding volunteer, send info to editor@camdenews.org.
