Another artist in Camden’s history
By: Buzzy Bohn 02/01/2006
After writing about Camden artist, Elof Wedin, in the November Camden Community News I found out that Elof had a brother, Peter Wedin, who was also an artist and Camden resident. Peter Wedin (1894-1980) had to come from Sweden to Minnesota via Montreal, Canada because of the immigration quotas of the time. Peter lived with his wife, Elsa, and his daughters at 4330 James Ave. N.
Peter Wedin’s art form was wood-relief, which is carving a picture in wood to give it a raised affect and then painting it. This medium is considered Folk Art. His artwork was shown at such places as the Chicago Swedish Club and Swedish-American Artist’s Association exhibitions. One of his works graces the cover of the book Swedes in the Twin Cities.
A world of thanks to Gary Wedin, the son of Elof Wedin, who contacted the Camden Community News to let us know about his uncle Peter. Another piece of Camden history revealed!
