A glimpse of the Harvest Festival

The 3rd Annual Harvest Festival event held on September 17, Lowry and Penn Avenues N., included a car show, pie and dessert judging contests, food booths, musical groups, an art and craft fair, info booths from many businesses and organizations, and activities for young people.

Judged by some of the finest palates in the Camden area, the winner of the Harvest Festival Pie Baking Contest is Kami Brueshaber for her Chocolate Chip Pie. Wanna be an award winner at your house?  Here’s the recipe:

 

Chocolate Chip Pie

1 unbaked deep dish pie

2 large eggs

1//2 cup white sugar

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup all purpose flour

3/4 cup butter, softened

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1cup chocolate chips

1 cup chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Beat eggs in large mixer bowl on high speed until foamy. Beat in flour and sugars. Beat in butter, vanilla and cinnamon. Stir in chips and nuts. Spoon into shell. Bake 55-60 minutes or until a knife comes out clean.

A Judo and Karate demonstration given by Doc’s Gym. Other events on the stage included music by Felonious Bosch, the Explodo Boys, youth band Indigenous Folk and the United Deliverance Temple Choir.

 

A youngster decorating a mini pumpkin, one of the many activities for kids. The other activities included, crop and seed art by the Northside Arts Collective, Pickles the Clown, face painting, the Black Story Teller Alliance, the U of M Raptor Center, Jo Jo the Ballon Guy, magician The Great Brodini, and a caricature artist.

 

Bike Cop For Kids, Mike Kirchen who seems to have found a place out of the way to take a rest from the many activities. While always mugging for the camera, Mike and his partner Mark Klukow are celebrities in North Minneapolis amongst the kids. Their program, which promotes bike safety and the wearing of helmets, has given away hundreds of helmets to kids and each year bikes are donated and given to lucky kids who happen to be wearing their helmets during certain times of the summer.
