2010 Election season begins with Precinct Caucuses

The 2010 Election season begins with Precinct Caucuses scheduled for Tuesday, February 2. Offices on the 2010 ballot include: U.S. Representative, State Senators and Representatives, State Constitutional Offices, Hennepin County Offices, Minneapolis School Board, and Judicial Offices. Use the link at www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/elections to find further caucus information as it becomes available.

In 2008, voters approved a plan to implement school districts beginning with the 2010 Election as well as at-large positions on the Minneapolis School Board. In the 2010 General Election, two at-large members and three district members representing the odd-numbered park districts will be elected. The exact ballot language is below.

2008 Ballot question

 Transition.

Beginning with the 2010 general election, three members representing districts with odd numbers and two at-large members shall be elected for a total of eight members. In the 2012 general election, three members representing districts with even numbers and one at-large member shall be elected for a total of nine members.

2010 Election Calendar

: The Military and Overseas Empower-ment Act (MOVE Act) may require Minnesota to move our Primary to August or earlier to provide for a 45-day absentee balloting period. Moving the Primary to an earlier date will also change the dates of Candidate Filing. Any decision along these lines is the responsibility of the legislature.

The 2010 Election Calendar tentatively includes: July 6-20 Candidate Filing, Sept. 14 Primary and the Nov. 2 General Election.

The City of Minneapolis is seeking bilingual election judges. Minneapolis needs language support specifically in Spanish, Somali, Hmong, Vietnamese, Oromo and Russian languages. If you are eligible to vote and are fluent in English and a second language, contact the Minneapolis Office of Elections at 612-673-3870 or apply to be an election judge at www.ci. minneapolis.mn.us/elections.
