Noble Academy’s Fifth Grade classes read over 1000 books
07/01/2010
Noble Academy's fifth grade classes each set a goal for themselves to read 1000 books by the end of the 2009-2010 school year. On June 3, they reached that goal.
Stu Keroff's and Brian Robertson's homeroom classes have been hard at work trying to reach this goal since the beginning of the school year, with all of the 52 children responsible for reading books on their own to contribute to the fifth grade effort. At present count, the two classes together have read a total of 2019 books, with no end in sight.
"From Twilight to the Magic Tree House, from Naruto to My Side of the Mountain, the fifth graders at Noble Academy have covered more ground than any other group of children I have had the privilege of teaching," said Mr. Keroff. "This year, we have seen tangible growth in the reading skills of many of our students, growth that was accomplished by exercising those skills. Mr. Robertson and I could not be more proud of these children."
"The goal has been reached and surpassed," Keroff continued. "Just in case there are any skeptics out there who wonder if our kids can achieve anything they set their minds to, those doubts have been answered with a resounding, ‘Yes, we can!'"
